Welcome to Fourth Grade!
Fall at Rice Lake
4th graders conduct an environmental lake study in our nature area.
Ms. Fischer, Mrs. Andersson,  Ms. Gaab, and Ms. Blue welcome you to fourth grade. We are delighted to have you in our classes.

As a science, math and technology magnet school we integrate curriculum by focusing on event-based learning and technology integration projects.  We teach by using an inquiry approach. Students become scientists who ask questions, explore their ideas, and solve problems. You are in for an exciting and challenging year.

Down at the Lake - Science Investigations
Students become lake experts by recording monthly observations about lake life. They classify the living organisms that they find living in the lake. View our Environmental Lake Study timeline created in Dipity!

Lake Experts
In the spring the fourth graders share their expertise about the lake they studied. They set-up four learning stations and teach primary students how to make observations about the lake.

Monarch Migration Project
Students observe first hand the marvelous development of monarchs.  As part of this unit students study the fall migration of the monarch butterfly by using the website Journey North to track the migration. Finally they design and publish a migration brochure that tells about the monarch journey to the rainforest of Mexico.
