Getting to Know Your Volunteer Coordinator
P1010051-copy_edited-1
Lori Yerbich has been part of the STEM Magnet Program since 2006 when two of her children enrolled in the program at Edgewood; one as a 3rd grader and another in Kindergarten.  In 2007 her youngest daughter joined her older brother and sister at Edgewood as a Kindergartener.

When the program moved to Weaver Lake in 2008 everyone moved into the new house and Lori made the move from SAHM and parent volunteer to a new roll as Weaver Lake Elementary Volunteer Coordinator.

The Volunteer Coordinator position is a part-time position for 3 hours a day.  Lori also has another position at Weaver Lake as a Clerical Support person. Please understand that she may not be wearing her Volunteer Coordinator hat when you meet up with her at the front desk answering phones or in the lunch room.

Some of Lori's favorite roles as a parent volunteer include:

  • shelving fiction books in the library where she can immerse herself in the satisfying patterns of an alpha-numeric filing system
  • working with Ms. Koch and the inflatable StarLab where a shifting starfield can cause a bit of vertigo.
  • dipping her hands into the goo of paste to help 1st graders create chrysalis molds.
  • sitting by an open window with a jar of rubber cement making 100 fourth grade science notebooks.
  • presenting works of art to students as an Art Adventure volunteer and seeing the wide-eyed expressions of students as they realize just how big the painting "Frank" really is and that it is a painting rather than a photograph.

Lori has a BA in English from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN and an MA in Human Resource Development from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN.
