A panel of community leaders has narrowed down the candidate field for the 2019 Minnesota Teacher of the Year award, and an Osseo Area Schools educator is among the semifinalists.
Lucas Staker, who teaches fifth-grade at Birch Grove Elementary School for the Arts, is among 40 teachers statewide to advance to the next phase of the competition. Throughout the next month, the panel will review semifinalists’ video submissions and take a second look at their portfolios. Approximately 10 finalists will be named in early April, with the 2019 Minnesota Teacher of the Year announced at a ceremony at the Saint Paul RiverCentre on May 5.
Now in its 55th year, the Minnesota Teacher of the Year program is organized and underwritten by Education Minnesota and receives support from several other organizations and businesses.
Candidates for 2019 Minnesota Teacher of the Year include pre-kindergarten through 12th grade and Adult Basic Education teachers at public and private schools statewide.
