Osseo Area Learning Center students attended the Minnesota Association of Alternative Programs (MAAP) STARS Legislative Day at the state capitol to meet legislators, share their stories, promote learning options programs and tour the capitol.
The Minnesota Association of Alternative Programs (MAAP) youth organization, STARS (Success, Teamwork, Achievement, Recognition & Self Esteem) hosts this event each year where students throughout the state come together to meet with their senators and representatives to share their stories, promote learning options programs and tour the capitol.
The Osseo ALC students visited with Rep. Joyce Peppin, Sen., Warren Limmer and Sen. Bobby Joe Champion. They heard from speakers Rep. David Bly, Rep. Sondra Erickson and Rep. Linda Slocum, as well as Mary Barrie of MDE and Steve Allen, Executive Coordinator of MAAP. They even ran into our superintendent, Kate Maguire.
The OALC students shared information about their school, the district, MAAP and MAAP STARS. They invited the representative and senators to visit the OALC and the MAAP STARS regional and state conferences.
