The Minnesota High Tech Association (MHTA) has awarded Osseo Area Schools teacher, Laurie Toll, the  2009 Tekne Award for Innovation in Teaching (K-12). The Tekne Awards recognize Minnesota companies and individuals who have shown superior technology innovation and leadership.

Toll is a technology integration collaboration teacher at Weaver Lake Elementary: A Science, Math and Technology School. With the help of her leadership and training, teachers and students at Weaver Lake are immersed in technology-rich curriculum and instruction where students have substantial access to 21st century technology tools that motivate, engage, and inspire learning.

"Ms. Toll's visionary leadership combined with practical application has enabled our teachers and students to integrate technology and learning in exciting projects that are innovative in the educational field," said Gretchen Peel, Weaver Lake Principal. "She generates an excitement for incorporating technology as a medium for student learning and expression."

Presented by the MHTA in partnership with LifeScience Alley and Enterprise Minnesota, the Tekne Awards annually recognize Minnesota's best and brightest technology users and developers in innovation, development, education, commercialization and management.

"For 10 years the Tekne Awards have recognized those who make groundbreaking contributions to the growth of technology in Minnesota," said Kate Rubin, president of MHTA. "This year's finalists should be extremely proud of their role in helping Minnesota excel at producing cutting-edge technology and continue to be a great place to do business."
